What is a type C visa and why do you need it?
A short-stay visa (type C) is a document which grants you the right to enter the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria and stay for a period of up to 90 days within every 6 months as of the date of first entry in the country. Different types of Visa C may be issued depending on the purposes of your stay.
Who must obtain a type C visa?
In case you are not an EU-member state national and your country of origin is not on the list of states for which a visa-free regime applies (see HERE), you must obtain a visa C before entering the territory of Bulgaria.
What types of short-stay visas are available?
You may obtain a type C visa for the purposes of transit in case you are a foreigner who is willing to transit through the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria on your way to another state, for which you have a visa. These cases are to be distinguished from cases of airport transfer where Type A visa is required (see HERE), and cases where a Schengen visa is sufficient or a visa-free regime applies (see HERE).
On the other hand, you may be granted a Visa C for the purposes of a planned stay if you are willing to enter the country once, twice or multiple times (see below). The total duration of your stay may not exceed 90 days within every 6 months as of the date of your first entry in the country.
A Visa C for the purposes of a planned stay is issued in cases of:
- Private visit;
- Business visit;
- Medical treatment;
- Cultural exchange
What is a multiple visa C and who can obtain it?
A multiple Visa C grants its holder the right to enter the territory of Bulgaria multiple times It may have a validity term of up to one year or, as an exception – of up to five years.
You can obtain a multiple visa C if you:
- Have obtained a short-stay visa in the preceding year and used in compliance with the legal provisions for entry and stay in Bulgaria. In such case you can be granted a multiple visa with a validity term of up to one year;
- Have obtained and used a one-year multiple-C visa in accordance with the provisions of the law for entry and stay in Bulgaria. In this case you may obtain a multiple visa with a validity term of up to five years. The grounds for multiple visa C application, however, must still be valid.
Where to apply?
You may personally submit your visa C application at a Bulgarian embassy or consulate abroad.
How much will it cost?
The application fee for a type C visa is EUR 60. In case your application is submitted 3 days prior to the planned travel, the fee is to the amount of EUR 120.
When will the visa be issued?
The application is processed within 15-60 calendar days, depending on the complexity of the case. In urgent cases the processing term is 3 working days.
